Current Buyer Traps
Worst High-End Buy
RTX 5090
Huge spend, weak return. At $2,699 the performance gain over an RTX 4090 does not close the price gap by any reasonable measure. Wait or buy used 4090.
Worst Mid-Tier Buy
RTX 4060 Ti 8GB
8 GB VRAM is now a real ceiling. Models above 7B, modern games at 1440p, and any AI workload will hit it. Arc B580 at $249 gives 12 GB. The math is not close.
Most Misunderstood
RTX 5080
Sounds premium. Math says otherwise. $1,149 for 16 GB when the RX 9070 XT delivers comparable real-world performance for $549. The Blackwell premium is not earned at current pricing.
